Talking Pixels RPG Builder
Make a classic turn-based RPG in Godot. No code needed, and free.
A whole RPG, running, before you change a thing
The RPG Builder is a set of screens inside Godot that edit your game for you. You fill in tables and paint maps; the game that comes with it already knows how to walk, talk, fight, level up and save.
Open it, press Play, and you have a classic 2D RPG: towns to walk around, people to talk to, chests to open, and turn-based battles with a party. A small sample game is included so you can see every feature working before you change anything. Then you change it into yours.
Free, for Godot 4.4 or newer. No code needed.
The five screens
- Game — title, start map and position, starting party, level and gold.
- Database — heroes, enemies, skills, items, elements and zones.
- Events — dialogue, choices, chests, battles, doors.
- Maps — make maps, paint them, place events, play-test from any map.
- Art — bring in your own battler sheets and battle backdrops.
What you get
- A working sample game, and a full how-to guide as a PDF.
- Heroes, enemies, skills, items, elements, and zones that decide which enemies appear where.
- An event editor with choices, branches and run-once switches — no scripting.
- Tall-grass encounters, bosses, chests, doors and cutscenes.
- Plain-text data files, so a backup is a copy of one folder.
Getting started
Install Godot 4.4+ (the standard build, not .NET), unzip this, import project.godot, and click the RPG Builder tab at the top of the editor. Press Play from start. About five minutes.
The full guide is here, and it walks you through your first quest end to end.
Credit
Free to use, including in games you sell. The one thing it asks is a line somewhere players can see it — credits screen, store page or About box:
